Our DEI Commitment

W. M. Keck Observatory celebrates the wide diversity of backgrounds and experiences of our local and global community. We are committed to building a culture of inclusivity where everyone is valued, respected, and welcome to be their authentic selves. We strive for an equitable environment that celebrates the contributions of all in our mission.

Our Commitment to Community

For over 30 years, Hawai`i Island has been home to the W. M. Keck Observatory. The success of our mission of conducting world-class science on Maunakea would not be possible without the support of our community. The late Richard Palmer Kaleioku Smart of Parker Ranch provided the land for our Waimea headquarters to create opportunities for our local community.

In honor of his vision and our connection to this place and our community, we strive to give back. Among the ways we do so is through Keck Observatory’s Community Engagement program. Employees may devote up to 40 hours of paid work time per year on community activities. Join our team and use your time and talent to engage with the community and help support our efforts to give back to our beloved home.
