Waimea Solar System Walk

Monday March 15, 2021, 08:00 am - Thursday April 15, 2021, 04:00 pm

Even COVID-19 can’t stop the annual Waimea Solar System Walk! CFHT, W. M. Keck Observatory, and University of Hawaiʻi Institute for Astronomy Hilo are working together to organize this year’s self guided, socially-distanced walk. The walk launches March 15, 2021 and continues through April 15.

Instead of our traditional booths, each object in the solar system is represented by a sidewalk decal that contains an image of the object and a QR code. The code links to a video created by staff from various Maunakea Observatories describing the object in English and ‘Ōlelo Hawaiʻi.

The final QR code takes our planetary explorers to a prize form. The first 100 keiki to complete the walk are eligible to receive a prize pack full of stickers, bookmarks, and other cool prizes in the mail. Just enter your address on the form!

Key Information

Dates: March 15-April 15, 2021
Location: Walk begins at the corner of Pukalani Road and Ala Ohia Road in Waimea (aka the Bypass Road)

Don’t forget to stay socially distanced from other groups!
