We’ll go on a journey of discovery that started with a small blip in Hubble images, became a fully-confirmed galaxy after Keck Observatory confirmed the (surprisingly bright) hydrogen signature, and is now a fully-characterized and incredibly interesting galaxy with JWST detections of oxygen, helium, and even carbon! This galaxy and several others are some of the brightest and farthest we’ve ever seen, existing over 13 billion years ago, and truly showcase the power of combining ground and space-based telescopes to study the early universe!
W. M. Keck Observatory wishes to offer our deepest gratitude to our Astronomy Talk Series sponsors, Rob and Terry Ryan.
